Science
On this page I will post the scientific articles I have published or which are submitted to scientific journals. I will generally post a short abstract and a link to the pdf file.
Superprism effect in rectangular photonic crystals. Work done during my DEA project, today known as the Master 2 project in Bologna terminology. I used mostly 2D modeling using the plane wave method (the open source MPB package) and the RSoft Beamprop© implementation of the FDTD method. The article is published in Applied Physics Letters.
Homogenization of negative index composite metamaterials. Intermediate version of the work on the transition between homogeneous and inhomogeneous regimes in electromagnetic metamaterial modeling. Published in Physical Review Letters.
Electromagnetic metamaterials. My thesis manuscript contains a more mature version of the work on the transition between homogeneous and inhomogeneous regimes in electromagnetic metamaterial modeling.
Spatial dispersion in negative index composite metamaterials. The main ideas and results of my thesis in condensed form. Published in Physical Review A.
During my recently concluded post-doc at the Institut Fresnel in Marseille, France, I worked on the effective medium theory of the bed-of-nails structure, with thin nails of finite conductivity. Partial results were published at the TaCoNa workshop in Bad Honnef, Germany, see the electronic version here. A complete version is finished, and will be submitted any day now (where “now” is 10 Dec. 2009).
I have also rewritten the first chapter of my thesis as a review of classical effective medium theory, and it is currently submitted to the Annales de Physique. The manuscript is available here. The submission and review process at the Annales de Physique has been excruciatingly slow and the interaction with the editorial staff (though nice and well meaning) has been unprofessional.
